Russian carmaker GAZ will buy British car maker LDV Holding. It may buy American Ford???s Jaguar division.
Ford bought Jaguar for 1.6 billion pounds sterling in 1989 and has been trying to make their production profitable through conversion and dismissal of over 1,000 workers. The management of the U.S. company has repeatedly stated its determination to keep Jaguar. However losses of 64 million pounds in the second quarter of the year might have made it change its mind.
Jaguar made about 90,000 cars in 2005. GAZ can afford buying the brand that ranks seventh in the world among commercial carmakers.
