2010 Buick Regal

GM announced today that the next Buick’s mid-size sedan will be known as Regal. it is rumoured that the US model will be identical to the Chinese market Regal which in turn is based on the European Opel Insignia. These models differ only in styling of the front grille, the shape of the front fog lights and the exterior mirrors.

GM said that even though the Regal name has been out of the market for the past six years it continues to be one of the top Buick nameplates recalled by consumers.

Before entering bankruptcy, the General Motors had planned to replace the Aura with the Opel Insignia.

No word yet when the 2010 Buick Regal will go on sale in the U.S., but buyers should expect to see the new model sometime towards the end of 2010 or early 2011. Engine options will most likely include 4-cylinder turbocharged units as well as a V6.

The Opel Insignia is offered in Europe as a five-door liftback and a station wagon called Sports Tourer.

  1. Buick salesmen that I talked to this summer had never heard of an upcoming “Buick Regal,” and knew very little at that time about the LaCrosse even. Why is the 4-cylinder “turbo” – if it actually exists – not offered on the base model LaCrosse or the Chevy Malibu LTZ?

  2. They can call it a Regal, but it’s still a Saturn Aura. Also, what’s with the 4-cylinder engine? Where’s the V6 that should be offered (and not the rotten turbo!). Oh well, GM will probably sell (read, GIVE) thousands to Hertz and Avis for the rental business!

  3. GM will doubtless trade (read, GIVE) thousands to Hertz and Avis for the rental business! Buick Regal,??? and know especially minute at that moment about the Lacrosse even. Why is the 4-cylinder ???turbo??? – if it actually exists?

  4. They finally figured it out. If you want a sport sedan for a Buick look to Holden or Opel. Why reinvent the wheel. I think they did a great job.

If you want a larger, outdated V6-V8 Buick with a soft ride and port holes, buy a LaCrosse.

Hopefully they’ll be smart enough to assemble it in China since the plants are up and running already so it can compete on price with other competitors imports here. But knowing GM and the unions, they’ll build it in Oshawa, ON with CAW wages, price it above the competition or make nothing on the car and then complain they cannot compete.

  5. i wanted to know how much this car is if i buy it off the lot and i wanted to estimate wat my car payments would b if i put down like 3-4000 dollars!
