Aston Martin DBS crashed

0

The choice of car for Casino Royale was made in 2005 when Aston boss Dr Ulrich Bez invited Bond producer to look at a new DB9-based model under development in the design studio. Bond producer loved the car and cast it as the perfect transport for Daniel Craig???s leaner, meaner, slightly blonder Bond.

This Aston with a small problem. The new car, to be called DBS, wasn???t due to be launched until 2007 and at that point it was just a styling buck still being finessed by design director. No actual DBSs existed and it wasn???t going to be much of a starring role if all Bond did was lean casually on a clay model.

Of course, the majority of the four cars Aston Martin delivered to the production were completely destroyed for a scene in which Bond swerves to avoid steamrolling his lady love and enters into a series of seven barrel rolls. The scene’s stuntwork was so successful that it entered the Guiness Book of World Records for achieving seven complete rolls, besting Top Gear, the previous record holder. Unfortunately, the end result of the wreck was a destroyed DBS. Brit mag EVO chronicles the story of Aston’s involvement in Casino Royale here, and provides a series of shots showing the DBS before and after the crash. Surprisingly, the Aston Martin DBS still looks gorgeous after going end over end a record number of times. It just needs a little TLC to get back on its feet.

Suzuki displayed their Swift X Sport Concept on the Tokyo Auto Salon.

The hood, splitter, fender flares and spoiler are all made of carbon fiber and if you can get beyond the podium-required underbody neon, Lambo doors and tri-tone hues, you’ll be able to appreciate the 18-inch OZ wheels that frame four-piston Brembos.

In addition to a revised dash, on the inside, you’ll find that the flimsy stock thrones have been replaced with racing buckets, complete with competition harnesses. Naturally, a show car can’t leave the shop without some form of excessive ICE, so Suzuki found ten wholes to fill with speakers inside the diminutive hatch.

Toyota Land Cruiser and the Lexus LX 570

Toyota Land Cruiser and the Lexus LX 570

The new Toyota’s “baby” was caught testing in southern Europe. The spied SUV will be a next-generation version of the Land Cruiser (or it might be the Lexus LX?). While the Land Cruiser is offered with a wide variety of gasoline and diesel six- and eight-cylinder engines worldwide, it’s likely it’ll come to the United States, as it does currently, solely with a V-8 under the hood. But the current 4.7-liter V-8 is likely to give way to the new American-made 5.7-liter, DOHC, 32-valve, VVT-i V-8 that’s being installed in the 2007 Tundra pickup truck. In the Tundra, it’s rated at 381 horsepower, and there’s no reason to think that’ll change much in the Land Cruiser. And as in the Tundra, the 5.7 will probably be mated to Toyota’s new six-speed automatic transmission.

The Lexus LX likely will get a name change to LX 570 to reflect the additional liter of displacement in the new engine, and the interior will be redesigned for something more elegant than what’s currently offered. But don’t expect a hybrid version for this largest Lexus.

The new Land Cruiser and LX 570 should be showing up at dealers before the end of this year as 2008 models.
