Toyota Outlines Next Generation 2015 Prius Hybrid

Close to two decades ago, Toyota launched what was largely considered at the time as an geeky experiment for a hybrid model using both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor for its motivation, the Prius. The Prius was so eco-friendly that the government offered incentives to Prius owners at tax time. Open up your tax estimator as the benefits just keep coming. The Toyota Prius is currently in its third generation with Toyota actively developing its successor that will launch in 2015. While it’s too early for Toyota to tease the appearance of the next Prius, the Japanese carmaker has outlined technical details and even targets for fuel economy, with the company stating that it expects to continue its practice of reducing fuel economy by around 10 percent with each new generation of the Prius.

2013 Toyota Auris and Auris Hybrid Unveiled

Look at the first official photos of the all-new 2013 Toyota Auris and its hybrid variation. This model will be sold in Europe and Japan as the Corolla. The new Auris will make its world premiere at the upcoming Paris Motor Show at the end of September.

The new Auris rides on a modified version of the previous model’s platform keeping the same 2,600mm wheelbase and 1,760mm width, but is 30mm longer at 4,275mm. The interior of the new Auris has been redesigned with higher quality materials.

Chevy Volt Amongst Worst Product Flops of 2011

A report on the seven worst product flops in the U.S. from 24/7 Wall Street two vehicle introductions, the Chevrolet Volt and the Fiat 500. Chevrolet’s extended range electric vehicle made it on the list because it underperformed in sales while the fact that it is under investigation by the NHTSA for fires related to the car’s lithium-ion batteries is also mentioned.

Great news for green Audi’s fans in U.S. Officially, Audi still refuses to confirm that the A6 hybrid will be offered in the U.S., but we have confirmation from several reliable sources within Audi that the new A6 Hybrid will be sold in the USA starting from next year with a price starts from $55,000. It is believed that the U.S.-spec hybrid model will be similar to the euroversion that also goes on sale in 2012.

The European model employs a parallel hybrid concept combining a 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine delivering 211-horses and 350 Nm with an electric motor that produces an output of 33 kW (45 hp) and 211 Nm of torque.

Today, Volvo released a full set of photos and additional specs on its Plug-in Hybrid, which will be launched in 2012.

The new model is a world’s first diesel plug-in hybrid, the result of close co-operation between Volvo and Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall.

The Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid’s powertrain consists of a five-cylinder 2.4-litre D5 turbo diesel with 215 hp and maximum torque of 440 Nm that drives the front wheels, and a 70HP-strong electric motor that receives its juice from a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and motivates the rear wheels. The car also features a six-speed automatic transmission.

GM announced today that the Euro version of its Chevrolet Volt electric car, the Ampera, will go on sale in the last quarter of 2011 as an Opel in Europe and as a Vauxhall in the UK. The prices starting from €42,900 (US$59,100), which is significantly higher than the base price of the Volt in the USA that sells for US$41,000 (€29,800) not including a $7,500 federal tax credit.

2012 Opel Ampera (Chevrolet Volt)

GM has unveiled the first photos of its pre-production 2012 Opel Ampera. Its a European version of the American Chevrolet Volt, which will be assembled at the plant in Warren, Michigan.

As General Motors said, the pre-production cars will not be sold at dealerships, but will be used for testing and validating the production intent design as well as developing the final vehicle software and control.
